Construction works in Burenberg to start with recovery of reusable materials
A few weeks ago it was finally here: after years of preparation and planning, the works on the Burenberg site began. First on the program? The recovery of reusable materials from the former monastery building as well as some adjacent buildings by Atelier Circuler vzw.
A true green lung in the heart of the city
Sustainability has therefore been the key word for project developer ION from day one, and for the future of the Burenberg site. The recovery of these materials, carried out by an innovative Leuven organization, is just one example of this. Burenberg will be a sustainable, biodiverse and car-free site with almost exclusively BEN housing (Nearly Energy Neutral Housing).
To this end, we are betting on locally produced, renewable energy, an innovative heat network, an abundance of biodiverse urban gardens and a focus on sustainable mobility through the STOP principle: first steps, then stairs, then public transport and only then passenger cars (which can be parked in the underground parking area, where we also provide electric charging points).
Our goal? To help the City of Leuven achieve its ambitious sustainability goals of Leuven 2030, thanks to a real green lung in the heart of the city. Leuven's future is coloring green, and on the Burenberg site we are happy to do our part!
